Our Story

Phoenix Cargo’s president/owner, Sam Umrzokov, was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. From an early age, he aspired to be like his father. His father worked in trucking and influenced young Sam profoundly.  His father always encouraged him to work hard, care for others, and never stop believing in yourself.

In 2015 and at the age of 22, Sam arrived in the United States. With only 70 dollars to his name and his sheer determination, he embarked on an adventurous journey that would bring him one step closer to achieving his dream! First, Sam secured a job with a small trucking company in Youngstown, Ohio, assisting in the loading and unloading cars. Then, after eight months, he obtained his CDL and started driving for the company. While driving the truck and learning English on the road, he had a burning desire to do more! He researched the trucking industry and started creating his business plan in hopes of one day opening his own trucking company.

Sam met with an owner of a small trucking company in Orlando, FL. The owner was facing a high rate of driver turnover. After having known Sam for some time and being aware of Sam’s plans, he proposed an offer to Sam. In exchange for joining the company as driver relations and recruiting manager and decreasing the company’s high attrition rate, Sam would have an opportunity to learn the operations of a trucking business that would eventually help him to start his own trucking company. Sam had a natural entrepreneurial flair. With only one truck, Sam was now ready to launch his long-awaited dream. While working for the trucking company in Orlando, Phoenix Cargo was founded in December 2017. Sam then relocated and made his home in Columbus, Ohio.
